Unlike last year, when three steel colossi were erected in various city parks, this year, a single throne on the esplanade of Place Ville-Marie. A place, moreover, perfectly suited for this kind of family show, with a breathtaking view of Mount Royal and the gigantic ring of Place Ville-Marie.

At the first light of evening, twelve acrobats from the Quebec circus troupe climb the fifty-foot-tall Giant and demonstrate the extent of their talent.

They climb there, hang from it, and launch themselves from its summit, was able to observe the QMI Agency, Tuesday, during the first performance of the evening.

The show opened regarding fifteen minutes following the indicated time, in front of an audience full of onlookers, work colleagues who had made an appointment, and families. The twelve artists first appeared with a dynamic dance by way of introduction, showing off their brightly colored costumes, signed Liz Vandal.

The ground then slipped under their feet to reveal a trampoline, embedded in the raised stage. Each member of the troupe did at least one pirouette there, some of which were very impressive. While some jump, others continue with balance and hand-to-hand figures at the foot of the Giant.

However, it was the trapeze number that especially caught the attention of the public, which demonstrated the most interested reactions at this moment. A first trapeze artist

(Louis-David Simoneau) first appeared there, hanging by his feet. Then, his partner (Marie-Christine Fournier) was introduced to him, lifted at arm’s length by two colleagues. The duo then hoisted themselves into the air, up to the waist of the colossus, where the wind swung them both front to back and left to right.

Together, the couple seemed to be one in this number that was both sweet to look at and romantic. In the hands of the long-haired trapeze artist, his partner seemed so light, shifting from hand to hand almost effortlessly, climbing, spinning, sliding and clinging around him.

The Géant de l’esplanade PVM was also the scene of balancing act, human pyramid and rope with counterweight on pulleys.

For its part, the musical framework is composed of great well-known classic works, such as “The four seasons” by Vivaldi, but also pieces by Bach, Schubert and Beethoven.

Last year, Cirque Éloize performed at the Géant located in the Jardins Gamelin. It was then the 7 Doigts who performed at the PVM esplanade.

The free “Ode to Joy” show is presented every evening, except Monday, on the esplanade of Place Ville-Marie, at 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., until July 30.

Montreal completely circus continues until Sunday.
