On a new Cipolletti anniversary and lastly as community leader, Mayor Claudio Di Tella made an assessment of his management. With successes and also mistakes, he assured that he governed the city as best he might. “We had to adapt and surely there are things that we lacked, but it was not easy to govern in difficult times like the ones we live in,” he said.
The last four years of management were marked by a series of situations and challenges that Di Tella had to face. The pandemic, the post-pandemic, inflation, the economic crisis were some of the points that the mayor highlighted. “Within the framework of everything that happened, we were able to advance on a lot of things and with the victory of the election in 2019, we recovered Cipolletti for Together We Are Río Negro,” he said.
Without a doubt, the pandemic brought numerous losses and challenges that the municipal government and the population in general had to face. But even with this panorama, in the midst of chaos the Cipoleños showed their solidarity.
“We didn’t know that we would have to govern in a pandemic, but it was our turn and we had to address the social and health issues. We had to assist the hospitals, the elderly, the people who had lost their jobs, the businesses. Without a doubt, social and humanitarian assistance increased, and with this panorama we had to do things that were not planned for a year and a half,” he indicated.

- The city currently has one thousand people according to the latest calculations provided by the municipality.
“2021 allowed us to adapt to a new situation, but we still did not know how the pandemic that had affected us so much was continuing. Nobody wanted to be locked up, but in those difficult moments the management knew how to accompany the neighbor,” explained Di Tella.
At the end of 2021, with the relaxation of restrictions, Cipolletti began to have greater growth in the commercial, real estate area and in the development of housing works. But faced with this positive aspect, another challenge arrived.
The mayor explained that during 2022 The municipal budget was 40% doubled from the inflation percentage. So, “items and projects had to be rearranged. We began to see more inflationary costs, inputs that were not available, and even so we obtained improvements in public works, the municipal vehicle fleet, but there are always things pending to be done. It is impossible to meet everything because everyone has a need and in a country where resources are limited one has to prioritize,” said Di Tella.
During Di Tella’s government, asphalt works were carried out, lighting installations, safe corridors, new green spaces were inaugurated and historical spaces were recovered.
120th anniversary of Cipolletti: Where is the city’s growth heading?
In recent years Cipolletti has become a participatory and modern city that seeks to promote the development of fundamental sectors for Cipolletti through the management of works and projects.
The communal chief indicated that one of those areas is the northern area and will be strengthened thanks to the development of the Northeast Neighborhood District through the provincial Urban Land program, the creation of schools and the planning of housing that will be built soon in the sector.
The south bank, towards the river. Here the objective will be to improve the infrastructure and give volume to the sector so that residents can use it recreationally. Di Tella explained that This year, an ordinance will be submitted to the Deliberative Council to create the Jordan Island Coastal Park entity and regulate the use of this space. Regarding the spa, the Executive expressed that the expectation of being able to open it this year remains. However, everything will depend on the results of the reports carried out in October and the water flows. “If nature helps us, maybe this year it will be possible.”
120th anniversary of Cipolletti: Promote economic diversification and the rise of Vaca Muerta
The mayor explained that The objective is to aim towards the development of Vaca Muerta and agri-food diversification. When asked regarding the phenomenon, he stressed that the city today offers a high level of quality of life and this makes it a very attractive option for families who come to the area attracted by hydrocarbon activity.
“We have good schools, good health centers, many green spaces, so when people choose a city to live, they will choose Cipolletti. These are the benefits that we have to take advantage of so that when the phenomenon continues to advance we have the spillover that the city has to have because we offer quality in terms of housing.”
Claudio Di Tella, communal chief.
He explained that One of the proposals to encourage companies in the gas and oil sector will be to create an industrial park in the northern area so that companies can settle and thus contribute to the growth of the city and the development of the Vaca Muerta phenomenon..
Regarding the development of the productive matrix, he assured that the objective is to diversify production. “Today we no longer only produce pears and apples, which are our strength, but there is also a diverse production. In the city we have almonds, hazelnuts, cherries and even cheese producing companies. Today we choose to continue taking care of the productive area because in the future it will be essential. At some point the oil will no longer be there and the land will continue to be there,” he said.
120th anniversary of Cipolletti: A message for the residents of Cipolletti
Three months before the end of his term, he assures that his future is uncertain and at the moment nothing is defined. “There were many years in politics and we had a difficult management. One has left aside many things, today one is already grown up and I think it is necessary to make a change.”he expressed.
“I want to thank the residents of Cipolletti for the opportunity to be mayor for four years and ask them to know how to apologize for the things that might not be done. It wasn’t because we didn’t want to but because we eventually didn’t have the possibilities. Today managing a budget is very difficult and we had a very critical moment that rarely happens. Only one can know what he has experienced with all this, but I am proud to have been mayor of the city,” he concluded.
