Cipher case: Imran Khan’s judicial remand has been extended for 14 days

The cypher case against Chairman PTI took place in Attock Jail, in which Imran Khan’s judicial remand was extended for another 14 days. Imran Khan was presented in the court after the judicial remand was over, while 9 lawyers of the legal team of Chairman PTI were also present in the hearing.

Official Secret Act Court Judge Abul Hasanat Muhammad Zulqarnain heard the case after the PTI Chairman’s 14-day judicial remand was over, during which a special FIA team also arrived at Attock Jail from Islamabad.

Imran Khan was presented in the court after the judicial remand was over, while 9 lawyers of the legal team of Chairman PTI were also present in the hearing.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Law issued a notification for the hearing of the cipher case against Imran Khan.

On the request of Special Court Judge Abul Hasanat, the hearing of the cipher case against Imran Khan was held in Attock Jail.

Officials said that the Law Ministry has no objection to the hearing being held in Attock Jail.

On the other hand, the former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who was arrested in the case of cipher disappearance in the special court established under the Official Secrets Act in Islamabad, was presented in handcuffs after the judicial remand was over.

The court extended the judicial remand of Shah Mehmood Qureshi till September 26 and ordered him to appear in the court after the judicial remand ends.

It should be remembered that on September 7, the hearing in the diplomatic cipher leak case was adjourned without action on the request of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

The hearing was adjourned due to the absence of Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain of the Special Court established under the Official Secrets Act.

The decision on the transfer of Cyphercase to Attock Jail is reserved

Yesterday, the Islamabad High Court had reserved its decision on Imran Khan’s request against the transfer of the cipher case hearing to Attock Jail.

Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Amir Farooq reserved the decision after the arguments of Imran Khan’s lawyer and FIA prosecutor were completed.

Imran Khan’s lawyer Sher Afzal Marwat, who read the Ministry of Law’s notification in front of the court, said that only the Supreme Court can legally transfer the trial to another province. The chief commissioner or interior secretary has no authority to transfer the trial to another province.

**Interview with Legal Analyst Dr.‌ Sarah Malik on Imran Khan’s Cipher Case Hearing**

**Interviewer:** Good evening, Dr. Malik. Thank you for‍ joining⁣ us today.

**Dr. Malik:** Good‌ evening! Thank you for having me.

**Interviewer:** As we know, Imran Khan’s cipher case has been in the spotlight recently, especially with the hearings taking place in Attock Jail. Could you explain the significance of holding ⁤a court session‌ in⁢ a prison?

**Dr. ⁤Malik:** Absolutely. Holding court sessions in a prison, like what we’ve seen with Imran Khan, often raises questions about⁣ accessibility and fairness in legal proceedings. It’s significant because it reflects ⁤the intense security measures surrounding the case and highlights the extraordinary ⁢circumstances of Khan’s⁢ detention. This particular setting can sometimes limit the usual courtroom dynamics, making it challenging for lawyers ‍to advocate⁤ effectively.

**Interviewer:**⁢ The case is being heard by Judge Abul Hasanat Muhammad Zulqarnain. What do we⁢ know about ‍the judge and his approach to this case?

**Dr. Malik:** Judge ‌Zulqarnain is known for his strict adherence to the law, particularly concerning the⁢ Official Secrets Act. ‍His ‌role ⁣is crucial here, as ⁣he has the authority to ⁢influence‌ not only the proceedings but also the implications of the case for ‌Khan. His⁤ decision to hold the hearing in ‍jail indicates an effort to expedite legal‍ processes and may also reflect⁢ the security ⁢concerns tied to high-profile defendants.

**Interviewer:** There were nine lawyers present at⁣ the hearing, which indicates⁤ a strong legal team for Khan. What implications⁣ does this have for⁢ his ⁣defense strategy?

**Dr. ‍Malik:** Having a robust legal team is critical for ‌any defendant, especially in high-stakes ⁣cases like this. The presence ‍of⁤ nine lawyers suggests a ⁢comprehensive ⁣approach to the‍ defense strategy, potentially allowing ⁣for various perspectives and strategies ‌to be utilized. ⁤It shows‍ that Khan’s team‌ is prepared for a prolonged legal battle, which could involve numerous appeals and motions in response ‍to the charges against him.

**Interviewer:** The Law ⁢Ministry ‍has issued‍ a notification permitting the hearing in Attock Jail. Can you discuss the political implications of this decision?

**Dr. Malik:** The involvement ⁤of ‌the Law Ministry sends a clear political message. It indicates government willingness to facilitate the judicial process while also potentially ⁢showcasing their authority over the judiciary. This situation can be ⁣interpreted in multiple ways—some might view ‌it as a way of ⁤maintaining⁤ law and order, while others may see it⁤ as a means to exert pressure on the former ⁢Prime Minister amid ⁣a politically charged environment.

**Interviewer:** how do you see this case ‍influencing the political landscape in Pakistan?

**Dr. Malik:** This case is already a flashpoint in Pakistan’s political discourse. Depending on the ⁣outcome, it could either bolster⁤ public ⁣support for Khan or severely undermine his position ⁣and the PTI party. It’s also reflective of larger themes of political rivalry and the⁣ role of‌ the judiciary in Pakistan. A verdict against Khan could lead to further unrest and mobilization ‍among his⁣ supporters, while an ⁤acquittal⁣ could reinvigorate⁢ his political⁤ ambitions.

**Interviewer:** Thank you for your ⁤insightful analysis, Dr. Malik. It will be‍ interesting to see how the situation unfolds.

**Dr. Malik:** Thank you for having me. I look ⁤forward to ‍discussing further developments as they arise.
