“Cinnamon: A Natural Remedy to Lower High Blood Pressure During Aging”

2023-04-26 14:15:38

During the aging stage is when various diseases are diagnosed the most, since the body does not have the same vitality. Among the most common pathologies during this stage are high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, cholesterol and conditions that directly affect brain health such as Alzheimer’s.

According to the United States Library of Health and Medicine, Medline Plus, blood pressure rises when the heart transports red fluid through its beats, in a process called systolic pressure. When the heart is at rest, between beats, blood pressure drops and is known as diastolic pressure.

In general, this condition does not present symptoms, which is why patients, especially those over 40 years of age, must have the pertinent medical check-ups to be able to diagnose this and other pathologies on time.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a non-profit entity dedicated to clinical practice, education and research to learn how to manage this pathology, people are classified in some of the following groups:

  • Prehypertensive: they are patients with systolic pressure of 120 to 129 mm Hg and diastolic pressure below 80 mm Hg. Here there is no clear diagnosis of arterial hypertension, but the values are above those that are classified as normal.
  • First degree hypertension: when the systolic pressure exceeds 130 mm Hg and does not exceed 140 mm Hg, or the diastolic pressure is between 80 and 89 mm Hg; there is already grade 1 hypertension.
  • Second degree hypertension: these individuals have repeated values of systolic blood pressure greater than 140 mm Hg and diastolic greater than 90 mm Hg. This is a pathological picture that can damage vital organs in the medium term.

Cinnamon to lower blood pressure

Today it is common to continue using natural products to treat various conditions. It is worth mentioning that using them does not replace medication or medical recommendations given by a health professional. In turn, it is pertinent to consult a health professional before ingesting them.

The kitchen, health and personal care portal Vital Kitchen mentions that cinnamon is a product of natural origin that can be used to control high blood pressure. Previously, it was believed that cinnamon might not be ingested by patients with hypertension, since it might further raise their blood pressure, however, at that time there were no studies that confirmed or invalidated these claims.

Recently, professionals attached to Georgetown University and the Israel Diabetes Association conducted various studies to determine how this spice influenced the health of the body in general.

In the midst of the results, it was possible to determine that cinnamon does not generate any type of change in patients who have been diagnosed with diabetes; however, it does generate significant repercussions in patients with hypertension, since it helps to lower blood pressure and not increase it.

How to prepare a cinnamon infusion?

Cinnamon can be added to various preparations or it can be ingested through an infusion. The portal unCOMO mention the recipe to prepare an infusion of cinnamon.

  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 cup of water
  • Bring the contents of a cup of water to a boil over medium heat.

  • Turn off the heat, cover and let it rest for five minutes so that the flavor concentrates.
