Workshops and meetings, exhibitions and events, the film festival “Operational chefs in the spotlight” aims to be open to its audience to promote the profession of cinematographer and behind the scenes of cinema.

Its sixth edition is being held this week, from March 4 to 10, at the Espace des Arts in Chalon-sur-Saône (Saône-et-Loire). Beyond the numerous workshops, around thirty films are offered to the public, including previews and old restored films.

Another special feature of this edition: a prize will be awarded to a film. This is the first competition organized by the festival since its creation. “What will make the difference is the quality of the photography in relation to the story told“, explains Jean-Marie Drejou, president of the jury. “Photography must serve the film and the story.

A sixth edition of the festival which marks the entry into maturity of this event. A successful bet for its president, Janick Leconte: “Last year we had 8,500 entries. We hope to reach the figure of 10,000 entries this year, but we don’t want the festival to become a big machine. It has to remain something very friendly, very family-friendly. where people can meet the technicians and chat at any time.”

A shift will be made next year, with a more international orientation: “It’s the festival of maturity, we are in the sixth edition, I think that next year, we will invite operators from other countries, we are thinking of Poland, Italy and we have made contacts. I think there will be foreign cinematographers next year who will give another dimension to the festival.”
