Cinema with a million profit has to pocket after surprise

The film has certainly sent chills down the spine of a guest or two in the auditorium at MovieHouse in Hjørring.

Behind the scenes at the cinema on Åstrupvej, it is admittedly not a horror that is brewing – but still a bit of a surprise.

Comfort first

Cinema-goers in Hjørring are currently being informed that a major operation is on the way during the autumn, as “the seats are crumbling”, as they say.

What’s wrong with the cinema, which otherwise got new seats in all four halls in 2019 – seats with footrests, electric headrests and almost perfect seating comfort?

Nordjyske has asked cinema director Benny Bruun about that.

– It is true that we have some seats where the imitation leather of the chairs has started to crumble. Therefore, 170 new chairs have been purchased for floor 1. It is the floor that is used the most – also for larger events, says the cinema director, who does not hide the fact that it is an investment that comes sooner than he had hoped for.

– We probably expected them to last eight to ten years, says Benny Bruun.

The new seats will have the same functions in terms of setting and comfort – however, they will be covered with red plush instead of dark artificial leather.

The seats, which are in tip-top condition in floor 1 – but are still being replaced to create a uniform look – will be used in the cinema’s three other halls, if there are individual chairs there that need to be replaced.

Benny Bruun will not disclose the size of the investment involved.

– We have had a conversation with the supplier, but we will pay for it out of our own pocket. However, I would say that we got a good price for the new chairs, says the cinema director, who is looking forward to all the seats being super sharp again:

– When we send people into the hall, everything must also be in order, says the director.

“Operation cinema seat” will probably be rolled out during November – possibly by the cinema closing down for a few days, but it has not been decided yet.

Million profit

MovieHouse in Hjørring is part of the group Hannibal Media Group Aps., and there are four other MovieHouse cinemas in the country, namely in Hellerup, Helsingør, Slagelse and Ringsted.

Business is also going well at the cinema in Hjørring:

The accounts show that in 2023 a profit of just over DKK 2.6 million was made.

The year before, the profit was DKK 2.8 million, while in 2021 it landed at just under DKK 1.5 million.
