Almost all dances, martial arts, climbing but also drawing, creation, music. The Magnan space offers a wide range of activities throughout the year. From tomorrow and until Sunday, it will be the opportunity to mix and enhance everything during the “Sport on Screen” event.
Olympism and humanism
This is the documentary Neighborhoods at the top which opens the festivities tomorrow at 8 p.m. A free session followed by a meeting with the team of this film unveiled in preview and which traces the preparation and then the ascent of the highest peak in Corsica by middle school students from REP establishments (priority education network ) from the Paris region and Cannes.
If mountaineering is not among the Olympic disciplines, all the other films selected echo this summer’s Paris Olympics.
Thursday, time for the feature film Olgaregarding a young Ukrainian gymnast, by Elie Grappe (6 p.m.), followed by the story of African-American athlete Jessie Owens brought to the screen in The Color of Victory de Stephen Hopkins (20 h 30).
It is on Saturday that three films which carry the values of humanism and social diversity specific to sport will be screened: the documentary selected for the 2022 Berlinale Let’s go children on inclusion through hip-hop (2 p.m.), the animated film The Summit of the Gods by Patrick Imbert, winner of the 2022 Césars (4:30 p.m.), and the public’s choice, the sweet romantic comedy The aquatic effect, which won the 2017 César for Best Original Screenplay (8:30 p.m.). After the screenings, the Magnan space invites spectators to meet Hinatea Penilla Marere, vice-champion of France Breaking in 2013, then Stéphane Benoist, mountaineer and high mountain guide, who has climbed numerous peaks including the south face of the Annapurna in the Himalayas.
Exchanges
The programming also thought of fans of the classics with The dive by Frank Perry and Burt Lancaster in the lead role (Friday at 8:30 p.m.), but also the punchy Rocco and his brothersby Luchino Visconti with the couple Alain Delon and Annie Girardot in the stars (Sunday at 2 p.m.).
The event will end on Sunday, With all our strength. The film by Nils Tavernier, with Jacques Gamblin and Alexandra Lamy in the leading roles, “invites us to change our outlook on disability” while a man in a wheelchair challenges his father to do the Ironman in Nice with him. After the film, it will be possible to speak with Emmanuel Gastaud, world champion of transplants in Triathlon 2023 and president of the Montagnes d’Espoir association.
For body and mind
From the screen to practice, there is only one step. The Magnan space therefore offers, during this week, paid sports courses: capoeira, climbing, karate, hip-hop and break dancing, self-defense (Friday and Saturday). If the body will be involved, the mind will also be stimulated: creative workshops, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., Wednesday (3 euros, upon reservation) for children aged 5 to 12, but also a workshop “Write your screenplay sports film” hosted by specialist author Vincent Jourdan, from 12 years old, all day Saturday (40 euros, reservation required).
Riviera filmmaker and journalist Julien Camy will host a master class Sport and cinema, a committed story Friday evening (free, reservation required).
Finally, until Sunday, the photos of the Nice artist Hicham Chikhi are exhibited in the hall of 1is floor (free entry). Black and white photos that put into poetry the activities, athletes and entertainers of the Magnan space.
