Traditionally, February or April is preferred… However, in 2024, July has proven to be the best month of the year at the Rex cinema in Pontivy (Morbihan), with 14,700 ticket sales.
Of course, the election weekends, which discouraged trips to the coast, and the rather unpredictable weather, worked in its favor.
But rain alone isn’t enough to fill the theaters… We were also fortunate to showcase great films on the schedule!

Great films still showing!
The impressive ticket sales at the Rex have been boosted by the Cinema Festival until Wednesday the 3rd, and elevated by five films that have been screening throughout July: The Count of Monte Cristo, adapted from the novel by Alexandre Dumas; the animated film Inside Out 2; the third installment of Despicable Me; Deadpool & Wolverine; and not to forget Just a Little Something Extra, which still managed to bring in 1,600 entries in its third month of showing.
Good news: these five films will continue to screen at the Rex throughout August.
Emilia Perez, a favorite…
Additionally, Benoît Roué’s favorite, Emilia Perez (by Jacques Audiard), will have its national release at the Rex on Wednesday, August 21, featuring the transgender Spanish actress, Karla Sofía Gascón.

Little Festival and Spider-Thursdays…
This August, the Little Festival for ages 3 to 5 continues on Wednesday afternoons at 4:15 PM (€4), featuring Yuku and the Flower of the Himalayas on the 21st and The Great Adventure of Non-Non on the 28th.
The Spider-Thursdays series will also extend until the end of the school holidays, showcasing Spider-Man: Far From Home on Thursday the 22nd and Spider-Man: No Way Home on Thursday, August 29 (8:30 PM; €5).
Regular programming will resume for the back-to-school period in September, including a Surprise Favorite, a surprise film presented as a premiere every first Tuesday of the month (next screening on September 9; €5), followed by a discussion session.

Kids and concerts…
The festival “Les mômes font leur cinéma,” in partnership with La Malette de Sophie for children aged 3 to 6, will return on Saturday, September 28 (4:30 PM; €4), with Little Tales Under the Ocean, followed by workshops and activities for children.
The Rex cinema will also screen two recorded concerts: Véronique Sanson’s Hasta Luego tour on Thursday, September 26, at 8 PM (€18); and the concert-film of Milène Farmer Nevermore, on Thursday, November 7, at 8 PM (€19).
Benoît Roué mentioned that the cinema is currently equipping itself to offer live broadcasts, premieres, concerts, and comedy shows…
We hope to kick off with the premiere of L’amour ouf, by Gilles Lellouche, on Sunday, October 13, with live interactions between the audience, the director, and the actors…

Memories and inmates…
As part of a national operation, the Rex will present the Play it Again festival (Films from Yesterday in Today’s Theaters…) from September 17 to October 1, featuring six films: Grease; The Sweet Life; Alice Guy, the First Female Director; Market Day; and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.
Screenings in partnership with the Amnesty International group in Pontivy will resume on Thursday, October 10, at 8:30 PM (€5) with the documentary Tehachapi, about the lives of inmates in a high-security prison in California.
On Wednesday, November 13, the Knowledge of the World series will return at 5 PM, focusing on The Loire (with eight sessions following until March 2025).
Documentaries and local talent…
At the Rex cinema, preparations are also underway for the Mois du Doc, scheduled for November.
Two documentary filmmakers from Pontivy and Ploërdut (Morbihan) are expected to be featured: Julien Hillion, from Pontivy, will present Theret No. 487, about life in the Belle-Île penitentiary at the end of the 19th century; and as a preview, Argoat, a documentary by Vincent Rannou from Ploërdut, focusing on the flora and fauna of inland Brittany.

Cinéma Rex de Pontivy : Un été cinématographique inoubliable
Traditionnellement, février ou avril sont des mois populaires pour se rendre au cinéma. Cependant, en **2024**, le mois de **juillet** a été exceptionnel pour le cinéma Rex de Pontivy (Morbihan), avec un impressionnant total de **14 700 entrées**. Divers facteurs, comme de moins fréquentés week-ends d’élections et une météo capricieuse, ont joué en faveur de cette affluence record.
Mais la pluie à elle seule ne suffit pas à remplir les salles… Nous avons aussi eu la chance de pouvoir présenter de bons films à l’affiche !
Quels films ont attiré les foules ?
Les performances remarquables du Rex ont été portées par la Fête du cinéma jusqu’au mercredi 3 juillet, ainsi que par cinq films populaires qui ont gardé la vedette tout le mois :
- Le Comte de Monte-Cristo – Adaptation du classique d’Alexandre Dumas
- Vice-Versa 2 – Un film d’animation captivant pour toute la famille
- Moi, moche et méchant 3 – La suite tant attendue des aventures de Gru
- Deadpool & Wolverine – Une super-production à ne pas manquer
- Un petit truc en plus – Un film qui a rassemblé 1 600 entrées pour son troisième mois à l’affiche
La bonne nouvelle est que ces cinq films resteront à l’affiche du Rex durant tout le mois d’août, permettant à encore plus de spectateurs de en profiter.
Un nouveau coup de cœur : Emilia Perez
Le cinéma Rex s’apprête à ajouter (**Emilia Perez**), le dernier film de Jacques Audiard, à sa programmation. Ce film, mettant en vedette l’actrice transgenre espagnole, Karla Sofía Gascón, sortira en nationale le mercredi 21 août.
Cette histoire d’un chef de gang de la mafia, qui veut devenir une femme, a reçu le Prix du jury et le Prix d’interprétation pour ses quatre interprètes féminines, au dernier festival de Cannes…

Le mois d’août est riche en événements au cinéma Rex. Voici quelques-unes des activités à venir :
Little Festival pour les jeunes
Ce festival s’adresse aux enfants de 3 à 5 ans et se poursuit tous les mercredis après-midi à 16 h 15 (4 €), avec :
- Yuku et la Fleur de l’Himalaya – le 21 août
- La grande aventure de Non-Non – le 28 août
Spider-Jeudis
Pour les amateurs de super-héros, le cycle des Spider-Jeudis continue avec :
- Spider-Man : Far From Home – Jeudi 22 août à 20 h 30 (5 €)
- Spider-Man : No Way Home – Jeudi 29 août à 20 h 30 (5 €)
Une riche programmation à venir
La programmation régulière reprendra en septembre avec plusieurs événements :
- Coup de cœur surprise : un film surprise proposé en avant première chaque premier mardi du mois (prochaine projection le 9 septembre ; 5 €).
- Festival Les mômes font leur cinéma : le 28 septembre avec Petits contes sous l’océan suivi d’ateliers.
- Concerts en différé, incluant :
- Hasta Luego de Véronique Sanson – Jeudi 26 septembre à 20 h (18 €)
- Nevermore de Milène Farmer – Jeudi 7 novembre à 20 h (19 €)
Benoît Roué a mentionné que le cinéma s’équipera bientôt pour proposer des retransmissions en direct d’avant-premières, concerts, et spectacles d’humoristes.

Dans le cadre d’une opération nationale, le Rex proposera le festival **Play it Again**, du 17 septembre au 1er octobre, avec des classiques tels que :

- Argoat de Vincent Rannou, sur la faune et la flore de la Bretagne intérieure.
