CINCINNATI — Spencer Steer hit a three-run homer to help the Cincinnati Reds beat the Seattle Mariners 6-3 Monday in an interleague playoff matchup.

The Reds entered the day tied with three other teams for the third wild card in the National League. And the Mariners, who lead the AL West, are 39-18 since July 1 for the best mark in the majors over that span.

Julio Rodriguez and Mike Ford hit solo homers for Seattle.

With their pitching rotation hit by COVID-19 and injuries, the Reds were down to seven pitchers Monday. Lucas Sims (5-3) got the final out in the seventh for the win and Ian Gibaut had the final out of the ninth for his second save.

Right-hander Tejay Antone made his fifth career start and his first since 2020. He pitched two no-hitter innings and three strikeouts. He returned Saturday after not pitching since 2021 due to two Tommy John surgeries.

For the Mariners, the Dominicans Julio Rodríguez 5-1 with a run scored and an RBI, Teoscar Hernández 4-1. The Venezuelan Eugenio Suárez of 4-0.

For the Reds, the Dominicans Elly de la Cruz 2-1 with a run scored and an RBI, Noelvi Marte 3-0 with a run scored.
