New Horizons: Chungkang University Animation Students Take on CTNX 2024
In a vibrant display of talent and ambition, 23 students and faculty from five universities, united under Chungkang University’s HUSS Global Culture Consortium, embarked on an intensive creative journey at the CTNX 2024 conference in Burbank, California.
Experienced in November, this immersive program, the second of its kind (CKIANI 2nd, or CK International Animation Workshop 2nd), offered participants a unique opportunity to network with industry giants and gain invaluable insights into the global animation landscape.
The program encompassed much more than simply attending the prestigious CTNX event. Under the guidance of esteemed professors Mike Nuen and Yewon Yoon, students gained firsthand experience by showcasing their work and learning from prolific experts.
“It was not only a great opportunity for students to interact with overseas creators and acquire an international sense and showcase Chungkang Animation School’s works to the world … It was an even more meaningful event because the university’s students and faculty could participate together,” expressed Director Yoo Hyeon-seok of Chungkang University’s Animation School.
This immersive experience extended beyond the walls of CTNX, incorporating visits to renowned studios like Pixar Studio and Disney Studio.
In light of the program’s remarkable success, project leader Kim Seong-hyun predicted, “We plan to continue to support the creation of excellent ideas and works by students and provide a venue for exchange where excellent works can be exhibited and promoted in the global market.”
One student participant summed up the experience, “As an animation major, I was always curious about overseas markets, and this expo was a great opportunity to interact with various experts… I plan to further develop my major capabilities based on the feedback provided by field experts … and I would like to participate again if the opportunity arises.”
The success of the CKIANI program exemplifies the commitment to nurturing global talent and fostering international collaborations. This initiative is a testament to Chungkang University’s dedication to nurturing future animation leaders.

## Aspiring Animators Reach for the Stars at CTNX 2024
**Today we’re joined by Alex Reed, a faculty member from Chungkang University who recently led a group of students to the acclaimed CTNX conference in Burbank. Welcome!**
**Alex Reed:** Thank you for having me.
**It’s exciting to hear about Chungkang University’s involvement in CKIANI, the international animation workshop. Can you tell us a bit about the program and what the experience was like for the students?**
**Alex Reed:** Absolutely! This was the second year we participated in CKIANI, and it’s been an incredible journey for our students. CTNX is a major hub for animation professionals worldwide, providing invaluable opportunities to connect with industry leaders, learn about cutting-edge techniques, and gain a deeper understanding of the global animation landscape.
This year, we had 23 students and faculty representing not only Chungkang but also four other universities as part of our HUSS Global Culture Consortium. We spent several days immersed in workshops, presentations, and networking events. It was truly an inspiring experience.
**What were some of the highlights for the students?**
**Alex Reed:** The students were particularly impressed by the one-on-one critiques offered by experienced animators. This personalized feedback was incredibly insightful and helped them refine their skills and approach to their work.
Many also expressed excitement about the opportunity to showcase their work at the CTNX Animation Showcase, a platform for emerging talent. We’re incredibly proud of their achievements and contributions to the event.
**With so much talent emerging from coalitions like yours, what’s on the horizon for these aspiring animators?**
**Alex Reed:** We believe this experience has ignited a spark in these young minds. They are now equipped with a broader perspective, a strengthened network, and the confidence to pursue their dreams in the animation industry. We’re excited to see what extraordinary things they will create in the future.
