Heavy rain is still falling in Chungbuk, and a heavy rain warning has been issued for the entire region.

Flood warnings have been issued for Goesan Mokdo Bridge and Dalcheon, Cheongju Musimcheon Heungdeok Bridge and Miho River Miho River Bridge.

Another 300mm of rain is forecast by tomorrow.

We connect reporters at Heungdeokgyo Bridge in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do, where flood warnings have been issued.

Reporter Lee Ja-hyun, how about the rain situation first?

[기자]

Yes, there is heavy rain at Heungdeokgyo Bridge in Cheongju.

You can’t see it well because it’s dark, but the water in the river is rapidly increasing due to the heavy rain, and the current is getting stronger.

Due to the influence of strong rain clouds, a heavy rain warning has been issued in all areas of Chungcheongbuk-do.

Following Cheongju, Boeun, Goesan and Okcheon yesterday afternoon, heavy rain warnings were issued across Chungcheongbuk-do from 9 o’clock last night to Danyang.

Looking at the amount of rain that has fallen so far, Jecheon has the most at 346.5mm.

Next are Cheongju Gadeok 326, Boeun Songnisan 298, Goesan 288, and Eumseong Geumwang 281.5mm.

As a result, the river level is rising rapidly.

Yesterday afternoon, as the water level in Goesan Dalcheon rose, a flood warning was issued on Mokdogyo Bridge, and a while ago, a flood warning was issued on Dalcheon downstream of the dam, depending on the possibility of an overflow in Goesan Dam.

In addition, early this morning, Cheongju Musimcheon Heungdeok Bridge and Cheongju Miho River Miho River Bridge were strengthened with flood warnings.

There are also accidents in heavy rain.

At around 11:00 last night in Hyeondo-myeon, Seowon-gu, Cheongju-si, a pile of soil was poured onto the railroad tracks due to torrential rain, and six Mugunghwa trains were derailed and an engineer in his 50s was injured.

Prior to this, at around 6:20 pm yesterday, an SUV vehicle skidded in the rain in Yeongdong-eup, Yeongdong-gun, killing one person and injuring two others.

Yes, it is said that Daecheong Dam and Chungju Dam increased their discharge due to the continuous monsoon rains?

[기자]

Yes, as heavy rain of up to 300mm or more is forecast in the Chungcheongbuk-do region by tomorrow, both dams opened their floodgates and increased discharge.

Chungju Dam, which affects the water level of the Han River, opened all six sluice gates and is currently discharging 1,500 tons per second.

As a result, the water level of Yeoju Bridge at the downstream of Chungju Dam is currently over 5m, and the flood warning standard is 1m ahead.

In addition, as the Daecheong Dam flowed around 1,700 tons of water per second, the water level of the Hwangsan Bridge at the bottom of the dam rose to 8.5m, and a flood warning was issued.

In particular, it is predicted that very strong rain of 50 to 100 mm per hour will pour today.

As the rain is concentrated in a small area and the river can overflow in an instant, those living in the downstream area of the dam or along the river must be thoroughly prepared to avoid flood damage.
