Chronicle of Martin Carli | Ice in Antarctica is melting much more than we thought — 98.5 Montreal

Against the backdrop of a week of sudden hot weather, science columnist Martin Carli looks at climate change and hibernation.

He finds that the ice in Antarctica can melt much faster than we thought for a long time!

A study published just a few days ago in the journal Nature, shows that ice sheets like what we find in Antarctica can melt and disappear much faster than what we see today!

“It should therefore be taken into account in the simulation models of current climate change, in order to detect even better episodes of rapid ice melting with all the consequences they can have on us!”, he says.

Also, researchers have evaluated over decades the link between ambient temperature and the number of home runs on the rise. They manage to determine a link between global warming and the rise in circuits.

In closing, the columnist explains why hibernating bears do not clot blood. Scientists see potential in it to treat and prevent clots in humans.
