Can we still afford to send our children to school?
This is the question launched by the economic columnist François Legault, at the microphone of the host Marie-Claude Lavallée.
“I have the list for Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine primary school. This is where it costs the least, but despite everything, you will see that there is mandatory equipment that costs $108.15. That’s school stuff. It doesn’t include the rest. There you need hand pencils, rigid rulers, eraser, boxes of scissor pencils and you have pencils, boxes of broad point pencils, other fine point pencils, notebooks for visual arts, cardboard folders with two pockets. It’s $53.08. We are at $161.23.”
He maintains that by shopping in several businesses and looking for sales, he managed to reduce the bills by $30. He adds that it is however still very high.
