Christopher Nolan vows no CGI in ‘Oppenheimer’

Director Christopher Nolan in conversation with the editor-in-chief of the publication Collider stated that the upcoming film “Oppenheimer” will not have a single frame using computer graphics (CGI), and all the effects will be practical.

Unfortunately, the publication did not provide a direct quote from the director, so at the moment it is difficult to understand how Christopher Nolan managed to shoot some really complex scenes without even using simple computer effects. For example, back in December 2022, the director stated that he and his team managed to film the first nuclear weapons test without the use of CGI, but Christopher Nolan did not provide any details – he only said that it was incredibly difficult to do.

Probably, “Oppenheimer” will rely even more on practical effects, as well as on the “finishing” of certain frames using traditional methods that exclude CGI.

Oppenheimer will premiere in US theaters on July 21, 2023. The film will be the longest in the career of Christopher Nolan, as he himself said earlier.
