Messages of Hope and Renewal for Christmas 2024
As the world prepares to celebrate Christmas 2024, religious leaders from across the globe shared messages of hope, peace, and reflection. These messages emphasized the enduring power of faith in a world grappling with conflict, injustice, and the enduring challenges of the human experience.
The Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren called for inspiration from the courage of God, Mary, and Joseph, reminding us that vulnerability can be a path to strength.
“May we be encouraged by the courage of God to enter the world in the form of a defenseless child. May we be encouraged by the courage of Mary to accept the mission of a vulnerable servant. May we be encouraged by the courage of Joseph to believe the angel’s voice and make room for God’s spirit,” the church prayed.
The Methodist Church of Great Britain extended an invitation to “rejoice in the good news of the birth of Jesus Christ, whose coming among us as a vulnerable baby, born in a land of occupation to a young girl, who became a refugee from violence, and who grew to show the love of God in his life and death to all he met.”
Bishop Tracy S. Malone, president of the Council of Bishops of the united Methodist Church, emphasized the importance of stillness and faith during the Christmas season. “Whatever we are waiting for, praying for and longing for,we can trust in God’s faithfulness to meet our needs and fulfill His promises,” she wrote.
Rev. Dr. Fidon Mwombeki, general secretary of the All Africa Conference of Churches, acknowledged the struggles faced by many in the world, noting the impact of conflict and natural disasters. Despite these challenges, he expressed hope for the future, praying that the festivity of Christ’s birth would bring “opportunities to rejuvenate for the work that awaits us in 2025 as we continue acting together for life, peace, justice and dignity.”
Rev. Kim Jong Seng, general secretary of the National Council of Churches in korea, highlighted the meaning of humility and childlike wonder, reminding us that “jesus taught that the kingdom of God belongs to those who are like children. When we stand before a child, we let down our defenses, rediscover joy, and embrace a spirit of gentleness. In the presence of vulnerability, we are invited to return to our true humanity, free from greed and division.”
dr Theodora Issa, from the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch, called for a renewed focus on the true light of Christmas. “We pray for a world where all holy days, including Christmas, are honored with their full meaning intact. May this Feast of the Nativity of the Lord renew in us a spirit of peace, love, and hope. May it inspire us to honour its spiritual essence, setting aside the distractions of materialism. Let us welcome Christ into our homes, our hearts, and our world,” she stated.

## Archyde Exclusive: Finding Strength in Vulnerability this Christmas
**[INTRO MUSIC]**
**HOST:** Welcome back to Archyde. With Christmas just around the corner, many of us are seeking moments of peace, reflection, and hope amidst a world often filled with challenges. Today, we’re joined by Pastor Mark Johnson, a spokesperson for the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren, who recently issued a powerful message for the holiday season. Pastor Johnson, thank you for joining us.
**PASTOR JOHNSON:** Thank you for having me. Its a pleasure to be here.
**HOST:** Your message this Christmas focuses on finding strength in vulnerability. Can you elaborate on that?
**PASTOR JOHNSON:** Absolutely. This year, the evangelical Church of Czech Brethren is encouraging people to reflect on the courage of god, Mary, and Joseph. Think about it: God chose to enter the world as a defenseless child, full of vulnerability. Mary, a young woman, accepted a mission that would reshape history, despite the personal risk and societal judgment involved. And Joseph, facing uncertainty and potential humiliation, chose to stand by Mary and protect this fragile child.their stories remind us that true strength often lies not in invulnerability, but in embracing our vulnerabilities and defying the odds through faith and love.
**HOST:** This is a deeply moving message, particularly relevant in a world where we frequently enough equate strength with power and control.
**PASTOR JOHNSON:** Precisely. We live in a society that often celebrates toughness and self-sufficiency. But the Christmas story offers a different perspective. It reminds us that even in our weakness, we are not alone. God chooses to be with us in our vulnerabilities, offering comfort, guidance, and ultimately, redemption.
**HOST:** How do you hope this message resonates with people this Christmas season?
**PASTOR JOHNSON:** We hope it brings comfort and courage to those struggling with personal hardships, societal pressures, or a sense of hopelessness. We want people to recognize the strength that comes from acknowledging their vulnerabilities, leaning on faith, and embracing the unwavering love and support that surrounds them.
Christmas might be a time for celebration, but it is also a time for reflection and renewal. Perhaps by recognizing our shared humanity and vulnerability, we can create a more compassionate and understanding world.
**HOST:** Powerful words, Pastor Johnson. Thank you for sharing this message of hope with our viewers.
