Christiane Taubira noted on Wednesday that she would not have the 500 sponsorships necessary to validate her presidential candidacy. She ended her campaign at a press conference.

“It is obvious that we will not succeed in having the sponsorships,” said the 70-year-old ex-minister, who announced his candidacy on January 15 and came first in the citizens’ initiative of the popular primary 15 days later, determined to try to unite on the left, but without succeeding.

Falling around 2% of voting intentions in the polls, it had collected only 181 signatures from elected officials on Tuesday, three days before the deadline for sponsorship deposits.
