Tiffert’s nose broken!

At the start of the regional league season, Chemnitz played 0-0 once morest Carl Zeiss Jena. A win at the start would have been quite possible. But the result was following a curious scene in the background.

What happened?

Tiffert was on his way to give instructions to his team during a throw-in when the linesman backed him out of the way.

The result?

Assistant referee Kai Kaltwasser accidentally broke Tiffer’s nose with the back of his head.

The former Bundesliga professional (VfB Stuttgart and 1. FC Kaiserslautern) told MDR following the game: “There’s still a little adrenaline in it, but if it flattens out following the game, then my head will be pounding.”

Despite the pain, Tiffert hasn’t lost his sense of humor: “I think I’m the only coach in German professional football whose nose was broken in a game on the sidelines. Without getting caught up in a commotion.”

The linesman is not to blame, the action was extremely unfortunate.

On the contrary: Tiffert tends to blame himself: “You can now say it’s my own fault because I’m outside the coaching zone. But that’s what a coach always is.”

In the end, the coach was satisfied with the game and his team: “We played refreshingly and also had some really good ideas. The 0-0 was okay. If we had collapsed following 60 minutes, then something would have gone wrong.”

On the second day of the game, Chemnitz travel to Rostock, to the second representation of the Hansa. Maybe Tiffert will be there following the game with points and without a headache.
