Christian Raimo’s statements regarding “neo-Nazis to be beaten” end up in Parliament. The deputy group leader of the Brothers of Italy in the Senate, Raffaele Speranzon, presented a question to the Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara “to ask for clarification regarding the behavior” of the writer, history and philosophy teacher in public schools and former councilor to the Culture of the III Municipality of the Municipality of Rome Capital. “Guest of the La7 program ‘L’aria che tira’ hosted by David Parenzo, speaking regarding the case of Ilaria Salis, he declared ‘what should we do with the neo-Nazis? For me we need to beat them’. Defending his statement with conviction and without any remorse , explained how he teaches his students to beat up fascists and neo-Nazis, thereby inciting violence in the name of anti-fascism and militant anti-Nazism. He also declared that democracy is based on ‘just violence'”, Speranzon summarizes.
Raimo, the FdI exponent continues, “is not new to statements of this kind: in 2020, when he held the position of Councilor for Culture of the III Municipality of the Capital, through his Twitter account he attacked the memory of Sergio Ramelli, militant of the Youth Front, barbarically murdered by communist militants of the Avanguardia Operaia with a wrench in 1975. Raimo defined Ramelli as an ‘icon of the worst neo-fascism’, demonstrating that he had no respect or human condolences for an innocent boy who was the victim of political hatred. In 2004 he signed the appeal for the release of the multiple murderer terrorist Cesare Battisti, who was under arrest in France at the time following having benefited for many years from the protection granted by the so-called Mitterrand Doctrine; in 2019, when Battisti was finally extradited to Italy from Bolivia, Raimo continued to ask for his release, also saying he was in favor of the abolition of life sentences and prisons. I would like to point out that, as a teacher, Raimo plays a very important and delicate educational role as a teacher in public schools, and for this reason his statements are particularly serious and dangerous”.
In short, Speranzon concludes, “It is legitimate to ask ourselves whether the television exhortations to violence once morest neo-Nazis really correspond to the teachings addressed to students in class, perhaps pushing them to carry out acts of violence, intolerance or exclusion towards other students branded as ‘fascists’ or ‘neo-Nazis’. Given the statements totally devoid of humanity and respect made by Raimo regarding Sergio Ramelli, killed as a student under the accusation of being fascist, this certainly would not be surprising. I believe that, while respecting scholastic autonomy, Minister Valditara must take measures once morest Raimo, also given the educational function he carries out as a teacher”, he concludes.
