  • Chris Rock (58) speaks for the first time in depth regarding the slap Will Smith (54) gave him at the Oscars.

  • The comedian says the incident still hurts nearly a year later.

  • He also says that Jada Pinkett Smith’s affair was the trigger for Will’s freak out.

Will Smith (54) shocked the whole world at the Oscars 2022. In the middle of the show, he stormed onto the stage and hit presenter Chris Rock (58) directly in the face. Shortly before, the comedian had made a saying regarding Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s (51) bald head. “Don’t put my wife’s name in your damn mouth,” the actor said following slapping Rock.

The freak wasn’t without consequences for Smith: He has to stay away from the Oscars for ten years. He then publicly apologized for his behavior. Comedian Chris Rock has since kept a low profile on the incident. In his new stand-up show on Netflix, the comedian is now dishing out once morest Will.

Jada’s affair is said to be to blame for the slap in the face

When asked if the slap hurt, the 58-year-old says: “Of course it hurt. It still hurts!” Nevertheless, he does not want to see himself as a victim. “You will never see me crying on a talk show because of the incident,” said the American.

Then Rock offers his explanation for Smith’s freak out. «Everyone knows that the slap had nothing to do with me and my spell. His wife had sex with his son’s boyfriend,” he explains. According to Rock, Smith often had freaks out regarding Jada’s affair. “I would never talk regarding other people’s private lives. But the two did it themselves,” the comedian continued. He’s alluding to a 2020 interview in which Jada Will publicly confessed to cheating.

The actor himself gave a different explanation for the slap. In his first TV interview since the Oscars – the “Daily Show with Trevor Noah” – he spoke regarding the incident in November. A childhood trauma should have been to blame for the freak out. “At that moment, the little boy gushed out of me, who had to watch his father beat his mother,” revealed the 54-year-old and distanced himself from his actions: “That’s not who I want to be.” In the conversation, the “Men in Black” star made it clear that he “in no way” wanted to justify what he did. However, he “went through something” that night, Smith continued.
