Mozambican health authorities registered another 180 new cases of cholera in the north of the country in three days and two deaths, the first in March, indicate official data to which Lusa had access yesterday

According to the most recent bulletin on the progression of the disease, prepared by the National Directorate of Public Health and with data up to March 8, a total of 13,397 cases of cholera had been recorded in the country since October 1.

In the previous bulletin, with data up to March 5, the total was 13,217 cases of cholera, which had caused 28 deaths so far.

In the period from January 29th to 31st, the 26th fatality of the current outbreak was recorded, in this case in the province of Tete.

Another fatality was reported in mid-February, in Sofala, the 27th death and the first recorded by the authorities in February, and at the end of the month a new fatality occurred in that province.

In the period from the 5th to the 8th of March, two more deaths from cholera were recorded, both in the province of Tete, bringing the total number of victims since the 1st of October to 30.

The disease’s fatality rate in Mozambique currently remains at 0.2%, and in three days the total number of hospitalized people fell from 89 to 70, according to the same data.

The province most affected by the current wave of this cholera outbreak is Nampula (North), with a total of 4,296 cases and 12 deaths, followed by Tete (Northwest), with 2,535 cases and nine deaths, where the prevalence of the disease rose to 0. 4% in the last few days.

In previous statements to Lusa, the head of the Expanded Vaccination Program of the Ministry of Health, Leonildo Nhampossa, said that 2,268,548 people over the age of 1 year were vaccinated once morest cholera in four provinces, between 8 and 12 January. deity.
