Caretaker Health Minister Firas Abyad announced that there is a wide spread of cholera, mostly among displaced Syrians, but there is a clear increase in the number of injuries recorded.
He explained that “contaminated water in several areas is the main factor that contributes to raising cholera cases, in addition to the issue of vegetable contamination from irrigation water, and thirdly comes the issue of contact with several people.”
Abyad pointed out that “the refining plant in the areas of cholera spread is out of order, and therefore the water does not recur and remains contaminated, and it goes to the citizens and spreads cholera among them.”
He believed that cholera “goes beyond the scope of the Ministry of Health, and it is important to secure electric power for water pumping stations, to secure clean water.”
