Choir girls collapsed in Vienna city centre: major operation

Because it was not known exactly why the young people had collapsed, emergency services were on site with 16 vehicles, according to spokespeople from both organizations. However, the collapse was probably caused by heat and a lack of water. Three girls were taken to hospital.

The choir was rehearsing on Sunday in a building near Stephansplatz. One of the choir singers collapsed. Other young people then began to hyperventilate, the rescue spokesman confirmed a corresponding media report. As a result, a major operation was initiated.

Suspected carbon monoxide

First, the fire brigade arrived with three vehicles and a multi-gas detector to determine the cause of the collapses. It was initially suspected that it might be a carbon monoxide accident. The rescue service even set up a mobile control center. Of the 15 choir members, three were ultimately hospitalized. All the others received psychological care. The operation was able to end following one and a half hours.
