A total of nine units responded to the fire, seven voluntary and two professional. The amount of damage was preliminarily estimated at 15 million crowns, a spokesman for the South Bohemian fire department said yesterday Vratislav Malý.

Considering the questions regarding the collection for the restoration of the church, I want to assure those interested that it will definitely be announced. We will proceed in cooperation with the parish,” the mayoress said.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a highly baroque pilgrimage church, which is an important landmark of the town of Chlum u Třeboň in Jindřichohradeck. It was established between 1737 and 1745. Its founder is Baron Jan František from Fünfkirchen. He had it built as a thank you for saving his life when it was buried by masonry on a nearby farm.
Chlum u Třeboně is located near the Austrian border, with approximately 1,900 inhabitants. The Austrian town of Litschau is located approximately five kilometers from the town.
