MEXICO CITY (AP) — In a rocky game with few approaches, Chivas salvaged a 0-0 draw once morest Tigres on Thursday in the first leg of the final of the Clausura tournament in Mexico.

Chivas, who knocked América out in the semifinals, barely generated one shot on goal in the entire match and will seek to take the 13th crown in its history next Sunday night, as host at the Akron stadium in the western city of Guadalajara.

One of the two most popular teams in Mexico, Chivas finished third in the regular season, but to claim their first title since the Clausura 2017, they will need to win either in regulation time, overtime or on penalties.

In the final, the position in the table is not a criterion to break a tie.

Tigres, who eliminated the leader Monterrey in the semifinals, is looking for his eighth crown, the first since the Clausura 2019. To achieve it, any victory in the second leg is enough.

In the first half, the local team had the clearest chance of scoring in the game at 19 minutes, when defender Antonio Briseño deflected a ball in the area and smashed it into his crossbar.

Chivas had their best attempt at 45 when Isaac Brizuela fired a shot that went over the goal defended by the Argentine Nahuel Guzmán.

In the second half, Uruguayan coach Robert Dante Siboldi sent Argentine Nicolás Ibáñez onto the field looking for more depth up front, but he was unable to disturb Guadalajara goalkeeper Miguel Jiménez.

The best opportunity for the locals came until the 78th minute, when the Brazilian Rafael Carioca took a shot from outside the area that went very close.

Tigres had one more at 83 with a shot from Uruguayan Nicolás López that was deflected by Jiménez.
