Anyone who has tried to integrate their wallet into the “Find My” network with an Airtag or a Chipolo ONE Spot probably knows the problem with the size of the two trackers. At 8mm, the AirTag is not exactly thin, the Chipolo is a bit slimmer at 6.4mm.
Chipolo presented a possible solution to the problem at CES. The Slovenian company now also offers the Chipolo CARD with Find My Integration. The Chipolo CARD spot is like an AirTag in the “Where is?” If a Bluetooth connection is possible, the CARD Spot can be located using a 105 dB acoustic signal.
Probably the biggest feature, however, are the dimensions of the CARD spot. The device is roughly the size of a credit card and only slightly thicker at 0.9mm. It should be relatively easy to stow the Chipolo in a wallet. It is also protected once morest any mishaps or a night in the rain according to the IPX5 standard.
However, the advantages in terms of dimensions also have two disadvantages, which may be decisive. The Chipolo CARD Spot does not support “precision finding”. The Ultra-Wide-Band Chip (U1 Chip) from Apple and the associated interface are required. Neither of these are currently available to third parties. Another disadvantage is that the Chipolo CARD Spot’s battery cannot be changed. There is only one recycling program. The battery life is specified as 2 years. The Chipolo CARD spot can now be pre-ordered for € 35.
