Chip machine builder ASML wants a mega branch next to Eindhoven Airport

The company is currently facing major investment decisions for further expansion. ASML says it prefers to expand as close as possible to the existing factory in Veldhoven. The BIC site, just a few hundred meters from the Eindhoven Airport terminal, would be suitable for this. The chip machine giant already has a smaller branch there.

In June, the Eindhoven city council will make the decision. ASML will only make a final decision following the investigation has been completed. If the plans go ahead, it will increase the chance of a better public transport connection for Eindhoven Airport. Both BIC and the airport are currently connected to Eindhoven Central station by Airport Shuttle 400.

Warning
ASML previously warned that the company wants to grow and expand, but that the Netherlands may become too small for the company and that the business climate will deteriorate. That threat led, among other things, to a conversation between outgoing ASML CEO Peter Wennink and outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

It was later announced that the government, together with the Eindhoven region, is investing 2.5 billion euros in improving the business climate for the microchip sector. ASML then stated that it had not yet made a final decision regarding its growth plans. But the news was welcomed. The billion-dollar investment will, among other things, make extra money available for housing construction. The municipality of Eindhoven also wants to invest heavily in public transport, roads and schools.

“Decisions regarding future locations of our company must be supported by favorable conditions, such as the availability of talent, infrastructure, housing and by a strong investment climate in general,” said ASML Chief Financial Officer Roger Dassen. “The government’s recently announced measures contribute to this.”
