Chip factory in Rio Grande do Sul receives investment of R$ 100 million from BNDES

The company HT Micron, located in São Leopoldo, in Rio Grande do Sul (RS), will receive financing of R$ 99 million from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) to expand its semiconductor production capacity.

In addition, the resource should be used in innovation research in the manufacturing process of chips used in smartphones and tablets. HT Micron intends to develop a new line of Universal Flash Storage Multi Chip (uMCPs) memory chips.

The new components promise to reduce the space occupied in cell phones and other devices. The updated format also promises an increase in data transfer speed, meeting the demands brought by 5G connection technology.

“By supporting the updating and expansion of HT Micron’s production capacity, we contribute to increasing Brazil’s competitiveness in the global semiconductor chains”, stated the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante.

It is worth mentioning that the exchange of semiconductor technologies is on the agenda of Lula’s trip to China, scheduled for the next few days. The Brazilian government wants the country to start manufacturing 14-nanometer chips within 15 years.

Chips are essential for industry in various sectors, such as automotive, for example. In turn, HT Micron was founded in 2009 in technological cooperation with South Korea and provides memories and integrated circuit for PCs, Smart TVs and other devices.
