His bill amounts to 1,418 euros. He has to pay this sum because two Chinese tourists left the taps open and the lights on for 25 days, local media reports quoted by The Independent.
The reason for this act? The couple allegedly took “revenge” because they were not allowed to cancel their booking four days in advance. They indeed discovered that the villa was not in the city, but in a suburb of the South Korean capital.
The couple then submitted a request for cancellation which was refused by the young 20-year-old owner. This angered this couple who finally went on vacation as planned, to this place.
They turned on all the lights, the water taps and all the appliances that were in the apartment. 120,000 liters of water were wasted in this revenge, the equivalent of two months of water consumption for eight people. After investigation, it turned out that the couple only visited the apartment 5 times for the duration of their stay. Once they left, the owner noticed a huge increase in his consumption. He ended up with a bill of 1,418 euros (657 euros for gas, 105 euros for water and electricity and 656 euros for other costs).
Unfortunately for him, Airbnb only intervenes for material damage to buildings, not to invoices. So he has to pay. Unless he turns on his tenants to make them pay.
