Chinese President Xi Jinping met today (16th) with US Microsoft founder Bill Gates, co-chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
President Xi called Chairman Gates an “old friend,” saying that he was an American friend he had met for the first time in Beijing this year.
“I often say that the foundation of US-China relations is in the (both countries) people,” he said. “I put my hope in the American people.”
“In the current global situation, we will be able to carry out various activities that benefit the peoples of both countries and benefit humanity as a whole,” Xi said.
Prior to the meeting, Chairman Gates said that it was “an honor” to have the opportunity to meet with President Xi, adding, “We always had good conversations and there will be many important topics to discuss today (16th).”
The meeting between Chairman Gates and President Xi took place ahead of US Secretary of State Tony Blincoln’s visit to China scheduled for the 18th.
