While the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is underway, it has been confirmed that the former coach of the Chinese men’s national soccer team, who failed to qualify for the tournament, has been virtually purged.

On the 26th, Chinese media outlets such as Pengpai reported that former men’s national football team coach Ritian was charged with “severe violations.” was reported to be under investigation.

Details of the allegation are not known.

In China, being under investigation by the Disciplinary Inspection Commission is considered a ‘purge’ that is difficult to recover from. Former director Lee was once surrounded by rumors that he was arrested, but it was not confirmed whether he was arrested.

Former coach Li, who played as a midfielder for the Chinese national team during the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup, was appointed as the Chinese national team coach in January 2020.

However, when the national team performed poorly in the Qatar World Cup qualifiers, criticism was poured out on Lee’s mercenary skills. Lee resigned in December of last year during the preliminary round.
