Chinese manufacturers of electric vehicles, including batteries and cars, are hitting the German market with innovations, German automotive expert Ferdinand Dudenhöffer said on Friday.

The head of the Duisburg Automotive Research Center (CAR) noted that major battery manufacturers in China are now building battery factories in Germany with large investments, bringing new technologies with them.

“China is therefore helping Germany to implement climate-friendly strategies faster,” Dudenhöffer told Xinhua.

The German government wants 15 million 100% electric cars to be on the road by 2030.

Automakers like NIO or BYD bring their products and services to Europe, noted the expert.

NIO on Friday unveiled in Berlin three new models derived from its NIO NT2 platform, the ET7, EL7 and ET5, for customers in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden. Last year, the company had already entered the Norwegian market.

Earlier this week, German car rental company Sixt announced plans to order 100,000 electric vehicles from Chinese manufacturer BYD over the next six years.

Sixt has already ordered “several thousand” BYD all-electric vehicles. The first will be available by the end of the year for European customers, starting with those in Germany, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, according to the company.

“It is good for mutual exchanges between Germany and China that we cooperate with Chinese new-energy (vehicle) companies that focus on technology. We Germans learn how advanced Chinese technology is and that encourages new exchanges”, commented Ferdinand Dudenhöffer.
