China’s Strong Opposition and Warning Against Japan’s Fukushima Treated Water Release: Taking Necessary Measures to Protect Marine Environment and Public Health

China’s Vice Foreign Minister Sun Wei-dong summoned Japanese Ambassador to China Hideo Taru on the 22nd, and the Japanese government will start releasing the treated water stored at the Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings (HD) Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the ocean on the 24th. He expressed concern regarding the policy and conveyed his strong opposition to it. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement.

China reversed its “wrong decision” and urged Japan to handle treated water in a responsible manner.

China warned that Japan would take “necessary measures” to protect the marine environment, food safety and public health following releasing the treated water. The statement did not go into details.
