China’s Holiday Season: Massive Movement and Economic Revitalization

From the entrance, there was an endless line of tourists.

The front door to the Temple of Heaven is filled with people waiting and there is no room to step.

Tourists flocked from all over China to take advantage of the eight-day holiday that runs from the 29th of last month to the 6th of this coming year.

″In the past, I came here with my child’s father, but now that I have a child, I brought him back to play.″

For the Great Wall of China, where tickets for the holiday season have already been sold out, there are even complaints posted on the Internet that only two steps can be taken in three minutes.

Other major tourist attractions, such as the Terracotta Army of Qin Shi Huang in Xi’an and the Bund in Shanghai, also attracted so many people that safety accidents were a concern.

″I saw on the news that the number of people moving this time is three times that of the Lunar New Year holiday. That’s why there seem to be so many people this National Day.″

Chinese authorities expect that 896 million people will travel during this holiday season, an 86% increase from last year, and that tourism revenue of 145 trillion won will be generated.

State-run media outlets are also releasing reports with expectations that the tourism industry will drive domestic demand and revitalize the stagnant economy.
