[北京 22日 ロイター] – Chinese state media reported on the 22nd that Fu Zhenghua, a former justice minister and a key public security officer, was sentenced to life in prison for taking bribes. There is a possibility that the purge is intensifying ahead of the Communist Party Congress.

Fu was sentenced to death with a suspended sentence. If there are no problems, the sentence will be commuted to life imprisonment following two years. He said there was no chance of parole.

He served as deputy director of the Ministry of Public Security and was appointed justice minister in 2018. He admitted to taking more than 117 million yuan ($16.5 million) in bribes in July.

He is also said to have joined the “political group” of Sun Lijun, a former vice minister of public security who has admitted to corruption.

Mr. Son has been accused of not accepting the authority of President Xi Jinping. Mr. Son’s influence was so pervasive within the Communist Party that authorities viewed him as a “cancer” to get rid of.

Three senior police officers from Shanghai, Chongqing and Shanxi provinces were also sentenced to prison terms on Monday for corruption. Like Mr. Fu, he belonged to Mr. Sun’s group and was criticized by Mr. Xi for being unfaithful.
