China’s decision not to participate in the G20 meeting held in India

Chinese President Xi Jinping is unlikely to attend the G20 summit in India next week.

According to a Reuters report, two Indian officials, a China-based diplomat and a member posted to a country in the G20 group say that Chinese Premier Li Qiang will represent China at the meeting to be held in New Delhi on September 9-10. .

No explanatory statement was issued by the Indian or Chinese foreign ministry regarding the Chinese president’s non-attendance at the G20 meeting.

According to foreign news agency Kyodo, Chinese Premier Li Qiang will attend the summit of East and Southeast Asian leaders to be held in Indonesia from September 5 to 7, while the G20 meeting will be held in New Delhi from September 9 to 10.

Earlier, there were reports that the Chinese President may have a meeting with his American counterpart Joe Biden in the G20 meeting, the American President has confirmed his participation in the meeting.

The two superpowers have begun efforts to stabilize their relationship after being strained by a number of trade and geopolitical issues.

Xi Jinping and Joe Biden last met in November last year where they both attended the G20 summit in Indonesia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has already announced that he will not attend the G20 meeting in New Delhi, instead of the Russian President, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will attend the meeting.

A senior government official from India told the news agency that we are aware that Chinese Premier Li Qiang will represent his country at the meeting.

Two foreign diplomats in China and a government official from a G20 country said that the possibility of Xi Jinping going to India for the G20 summit is very unlikely.
