China’s Changsha building collapse death toll rises to 26 (total)

According to the state-run news agency Shinhwa on the 5th, as of 9:40 pm (local time), the 7th day of the accident, the number of confirmed deaths was 26. Xinhua News Agency reported that identification of the deceased is currently underway.

In addition, the Changsha city rescue authorities rescued a female survivor from the crash site at 0:02 on the same day, increasing the number of people rescued from the accident site so far to 10.

As of the 30th of last month, the day following the accident, 23 people were identified as being buried in a pile of buildings, and 39 people were presumed to have been near the accident site but might not be reached.

Therefore, there is a possibility that there will be more deaths in the future.

A Changsha city official said, “The rescue operation is proceeding in a way that peels off the wreckage of the collapsed building.

On the other hand, it was confirmed that the collapsed building had eight floors, with the 2nd floor being a restaurant, the 3rd floor a movie screening cafe, the 4th to 6th floors being a Alex Reed house, and the 7th to 8th floors being used as a home.

In particular, the building in the accident was originally built as a six-story building, but in 2018, it was extended to eight floors and the occupants changed the structure, a Changsha city official said at a press conference on the 30th of last month.
