China’s space mission Chang’e-6 has successfully landed on the mysterious dark side of the moon.
Note that this part of the moon is not called dark because there is no light, but because there are no details about it, it is called dark or hidden.
According to Chinese media, the Chang’e-6 has successfully landed on the moon, from where it will collect samples and send them back to Earth. The lander of this mission landed at the Pole-Aitken Basin, located in the northeastern region of the Moon’s south pole.
This is the region of the moon where not many details are known and from which it will collect samples. In 48 hours, the lander will collect rocks and other samples from the lunar surface using a robotic arm.
Along with collecting samples, the mission will also conduct other experiments. After collecting the samples, the lander will fly over the surface of the moon and connect with the orbiter in lunar orbit.
The Chang’e mission will then begin its return journey to Earth and after 5 days the capsule will enter the Earth’s atmosphere and land in northern China.
It should be noted that the Chang’e mission left for the Moon on May 3 and its mission will end after returning to Earth in a total of 53 days. The Chang’e 6 mission will collect samples weighing 2 kg and if the mission is successful, it will be a huge advance.
This will be the first time that samples from the dark side of the moon will be brought back to Earth, as previous missions by the US, the Soviet Union and China have collected samples from the near surface of the moon.
Chang’e 6 will be followed by China’s Chang’e 7 robotic mission to the Moon’s South Pole. The mission will look for signs of ice there while also examining the region’s atmosphere and climate.
The Chang’e 8 mission will conclude the Chang’e missions that will be sent there to possibly establish a research station. China wants to land humans on the moon by 2030 while also establishing a base there.
