China’s Chang’e-4 probe completes work on the 44th lunar day

The lander and rover of the Chang’e-4 probe went into sleep mode for the lunar night following operating stably on a 44th lunar day.

The lander was put into sleep mode at 6 a.m. Wednesday (Beijing time), and the rover, Yutu-2, at 7:14 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center of the National Administration of China space.

A lunar day is equivalent to 14 days on Earth, and a lunar night has the same length. The lunar rover, which went into sleep mode during the lunar night due to lack of solar power, traveled 1,239.88 meters on the far side of the moon, the center said.
