When Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, had a dialogue with French President’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Bona, he called on Europe to remain open, support free trade, and prevent falling into the trap of “protectionism”. He also hoped that France would properly handle the anti-subsidy investigation of electric vehicles. Play a constructive role.

According to the official website of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi said in a phone call with Bonne on Friday (September 22) that thanks to the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-France relations have maintained high-level development. Exchanges between the two countries at all levels have been fully restarted, and practical cooperation in various fields has made substantial progress. Both sides should give full play to the role of strategic dialogue and high-level people-to-people and cultural exchange mechanisms to make political mutual trust between the two countries stronger, pragmatic cooperation closer, people-to-people and cultural exchanges more dynamic, and public opinion foundation deeper.

Wang Yi said that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the EU. It is hoped that the EU will adhere to openness and inclusiveness, uphold market principles, support free trade, and prevent it from falling into the trap of “protectionism”. China is committed to resolving mutual concerns with the EU through dialogue and consultation, and hopes that France will play a constructive role in properly handling relevant countervailing investigations.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis. Wang Yi said that China upholds an objective and fair stance and is always committed to promoting peace and talks. It is hoped that France and other major European countries will play an important role in creating the necessary conditions for seeking a political solution.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues such as the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula.

The European Commission announced earlier that it would launch a countervailing investigation into the import of Chinese electric vehicles, which means that the EU may impose additional anti-dumping and countervailing duties on electric vehicles from China. China’s Ministry of Commerce criticized the EU’s move as a “naked protectionist act” that would have a negative impact on China-EU economic and trade relations.

Although this investigation has also attracted opposition from European electric vehicle companies, Germany and France have expressed clear support for the EU’s launch of the investigation at the official level.
