The C919, a Chinese-designed and manufactured medium-range airliner, has completed its first commercial flight. On the morning of May 28, C919 took off from Shanghai and landed in Beijing.

On board the aircraft, writes BBC News, there were more than 130 passengers. The flight took less than three hours. In Beijing, the plane was greeted with a “water salute”.

There is a discussion in China and beyond that the C919 has a lot of foreign-made components. On Twitter, for example, they publish different options infographics, showing in which countries this or that part of the aircraft is produced. Those who criticize the widespread use of foreign components in Chinese aircraft point out that this is a common global practice.

The first C919 prototype was presented at the end of 2015. The aircraft made its first test flight in May 2017. It is expected that it should become the main competitor of the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737-800, which are currently the most massive medium-haul aircraft in the world.
