Beijing: China plans to build a building on the moon within five years. More than 100 Chinese scientists, researchers and space contractors had gathered in Wuhan to discuss the issue. The meeting discussed plans and methods for building infrastructure on the moon.

Ding Liun, an expert at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said a team is designing a robot called Chinese Super Masons to make bricks from lunar soil.

The report also mentions that there are many hurdles to building in China. Lack of water, low gravity, frequent earthquakes on the moon, and harsh cosmic radiation might all adversely affect the project. However, for long-term lunar exploration, a habitat on the moon is necessary and will become a reality in the future, Chinese officials said.

A robot making bricks from lunar soil will be launched during China’s Change-8 mission by 2028, Ding Liun said. They say we will make the first brick from real moon soil and only on the moon. China also aims to bring back the first soil sample from the far side of the moon by 2025 with a mission.

China has brought back soil samples from the vicinity of the moon during the 2020 Change-5 mission, according to media reports. The Change-7 mission will be launched in 2026. It will land in the Aitken Basin in the South Pole and search for water beneath the craters. After establishing a lunar research station, China wants astronauts to stay on the moon for a long time.
