Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said yesterday that relations between his country and the United States “stabilized” last year, while the two economic powers are strengthening dialogue to overcome their differences.
It seems that the two countries are determined to resume dialogue following Washington sent several senior officials to Beijing last year, while a meeting was held between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping in San Francisco on the sidelines of the APEC summit.
Wang Yi stressed, “Thanks to persistent efforts, the two parties have resumed dialogue and communication, and relations between the two countries have witnessed stability.”
In the context of presenting the outcome of China’s diplomatic move, the minister acknowledged that relations with the United States “experienced difficulties” at the beginning of 2023.
He explained that Beijing “clearly expressed its position and demanded that the United States change its understanding of China.”
It is noteworthy that US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen visited Beijing last July, in the second visit to China by a US administration official in the recent period. The Treasury Department announced at the time that Yellen would visit China to discuss the need for “the two countries to manage their relationship in a responsible manner, as the two leading economies in the world.”
