China has always advocated that nuclear powers adhere to the concept of common security and urges all parties to contribute to reducing nuclear tensions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said following the Russian president’s statement, Vladimir Putin, on the possible use of nuclear weapons
In an interview with Dmitry Kiselev, general director of the media group Rossiya Segodnya, of which Sputnik is a part, released earlier this Wednesday (13), Putin said that Moscow was ready to use its nuclear arsenal to guarantee the existence and the sovereignty of the Russian state.
Russia’s nuclear triad is more advanced than any other country’s, the president said. “Under the current circumstances, all parties must take real steps to jointly contribute to de-escalation [nuclear],” Wang said at a briefing, adding that China has always advocated that all nuclear states follow the common security concept,” Wang Wenbin said.
There is no winner in nuclear war, Wang said, recalling that in January 2022, the five nuclear states issued a declaration on preventing nuclear war.
“China drew your attention to the fact that the Russian side has consistently reaffirmed this principle,” the spokesperson added.
In early March, in his state of the nation address, Putin said that Western foreign policy, including allegations regarding the possible deployment of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) troops to Ukraine, was dangerous and threatened a nuclear conflict that would result in the destruction of civilization.
