China unveils action plan to further digitalize consumer goods industry

Chinese authorities have released an action plan to facilitate the digitalization of the consumer goods industry, as the country strives to boost the integration of the digital and real economies, as well as create and meet demand for consumption.

China will achieve notable improvements in the integration and application of digital technologies in the consumer goods industry by 2025, according to the plan jointly released by five government departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Human Resources. Information technology.

The deep integration and application of digital technologies would help improve the supply of consumer goods, expand industrial chains, increase the added value of industry, and encourage enterprises to strengthen digital innovation in the research and development and in their key competitiveness, the ministry said.

The shares of consumer goods companies that have digitized their management and operations, equipped themselves with digital tools for research, development and design, and introduced e-commerce into their business, must all exceed 80% of by 2025, according to the plan.

China also aims to form 200 pilot factories for smart manufacturing in sectors such as textiles and garments, household appliances, consumer electronics, food and medicine during the plan period.
