Black box found at Chinese airliner crash site

(Wuzhou Xinhua = Yonhap News) A search team finds and collects one of the black boxes (automatic recorders) of the crashed plane at the site of the crash of a China Eastern Airlines passenger plane in Wuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China on the 23rd (local time). (Beijing = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Jin-bang = Chinese authorities said they were working with US government agencies to investigate the crash of a China Eastern Airlines domestic flight that crashed with 132 passengers and crew on board.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Wang Wonbin (汪文斌) said at a regular briefing on the 24th that when asked whether it had requested assistance from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to investigate the accident, he said, “We are in close contact (with the NTSB side).”

“China is currently focusing on the search and rescue operation of the Eastern Airlines plane,” Wang added.

Earlier on the 22nd (local time), Archyde.com reported that the NTSB was “contacting the chief investigative officer of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC)” in a statement, saying, “Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Boeing (aircraft manufacturer), CFM (aircraft engine manufacturer)” ) will support China’s investigation in any necessary way.”

The NTSB is an independent U.S. government agency responsible for investigating the circumstances and causes of various private sector traffic accidents that occur not only on air routes, but also on highways and sea roads.

A Boeing 737 airliner belonging to China Eastern Airlines crashed on the followingnoon of the 21st, on the way from Kunming, Yunnan Province, to Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, in Wuzhou Yashan, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
