China and Syria announce strategic partnership Chinese President Xi Jinping and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad jointly announced on Friday that China-Syria will establish a strategic partnership, Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported. As part of his first visit to China since 2004, the leaders met ahead of the opening ceremony of the Asian Games.
Xi Jinping said that China-Syria strategic partnership will become an important milestone in the history of bilateral relations. Xi added that China supports Syria in opposing foreign interference and partisan intimidation and safeguarding national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
