[서울=뉴스핌] Reporter Choi Won-jin = China has suspended some live broadcasts of e-sports games at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, Bloomberg News reported on the 25th (local time), citing multiple sources familiar with the matter.

In China, it is possible to watch live Hangzhou Asian Games e-sports games through video platforms such as Tencent and Huya, and the authorities are allowing multiplayer games such as League of Legends (LOL) and Honor of Kings on these platforms. It is said that instructions were given to broadcast only the semifinals and finals of player games.

Sources said, “It seems that the authorities’ concerns regarding Internet addiction played a part.”

The guidelines issued to these platforms were sudden, Bloomberg reported. On Huya, China’s version of Twitch, a program notice was posted saying that there would be no broadcasts of group preliminaries and quarterfinals for some events, and on Tencent’s streaming site, a user complained in the comments asking why he might not find some videos, including replays of Day 1 matches. However, when Bloomberg checked on the same day, the comment was deleted.

Bloomberg explained that state broadcaster CCTV holds the rights to all Hangzhou Asian Games. There is a possibility that CCTV stopped broadcasting some games due to instructions from the authorities.

The Hangzhou Asian Games e-sports games, which opened on the 24th and run until the 2nd of next month, include League of Legends, FIFA Online 4 (FC Online), Battleground Mobile, Street Fighter 5, Arena of Valor, and Three Kingdoms of Dreams 2. It will be held in a total of 7 sports, including , Dota 2, etc.

As the Chinese authorities only allow the semifinals and finals of multiplayer games to be broadcast in the country, it is expected that only League of Legends, Glory of the King, Dream Kingdoms 2, and Dota 2 will be broadcast. Among these, Glory of the Prince and Kingdom of Dreams 2 are Chinese games.
