China supports international peace conference with the participation of Russia and Ukraine, says Beijing – Jornal OPaís

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reiterated his country’s position on the conflict, in favor of holding peace negotiations with the participation of both sides

China supports an international peace conference recognized by Russia and Ukraine with equal participation from all sides, China’s foreign minister said.

“China supports the timely convening of an international peace conference, recognized by both Russia and Ukraine, with equal participation from all sides and impartial discussion of all peace plans,” Wang Yi said at a press conference on Thursday on Friday (7), held within the scope of the second session of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) of China, the country’s main legislative body. It started in Beijing, on Tuesday (5), and will last until Monday (11).

All of China’s efforts towards Ukraine are aimed at paving the way for peace negotiations, the Chinese foreign minister added. Wang said China has always adopted a fair stance toward the Ukrainian crisis and insisted on reconciliation.

“Everything we are doing aims to achieve one goal: to pave the way to end the war and begin peace talks,” he said.

In February 2023, Beijing published a document on the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict, with 12 points, including the demand for a ceasefire, respect for the legitimate security interests of all countries and a solution to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
