China on Friday expressed support for the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) countries’ initiative to send a collective peacekeeping force to Kazakhstan in prey to internal disturbances.
This is what emerges from statements by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin at a press conference in the capital, Beijing, regarding the situation in Kazakhstan and the dispatch of a collective force by the CSTO in this Central Asian country.
Wang Wenbin said Beijing supports all efforts by the Kazakh authorities to end the unrest in the country as quickly as possible.
He added that Kazakhstan is a neighboring country and a comprehensive and lasting strategic partner of China, stressing that the Chinese side is ready to provide all the necessary support to the Kazakh side to overcome the difficulties.
The spokesperson for Chinese diplomacy observed that Kazakhstan is a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which also includes Russia and China, and that the organization can play an active role in resolving the crisis. .
He said China and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization are closely following developments in Kazakhstan.
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CTSC) was established in May 1992 and includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
In a statement released on Friday, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, announced the restoration of public order in his country.
Kazakhstan’s interior ministry earlier announced that 26 protesters were killed during anti-government protests.
The Kazakh government announced its resignation on Wednesday amid protests in the country triggered by a drastic increase in the prices of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Following this unprecedented protest movement, the Kazakh authorities declared a state of emergency throughout the territory to preserve public order, local media reported.
