[21日 ロイター] – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Monday expressed concern over the rapid rise in the number of new coronavirus infections in China. There are also fears that China may be struggling to grasp the infection situation.
In Beijing on the 21st, dozens of cars with coffins were seen lined up in front of a crematorium. However, the government has reported that there were no deaths from the coronavirus, prompting growing criticism of the government’s response.
“China reports a relatively low number of infected people being treated in intensive care units (ICUs), but the beds are said to be full,” said Michael Ryan, WHO’s head of emergency response. “We have information,” he said, adding, “I don’t want to say that China is not actively reporting on the situation. I think it’s lagging behind.”
The WHO said it was ready to work with China to improve how it collects critical data, such as hospitalizations and deaths from the novel coronavirus, and to help China import vaccines.
